We at Chaska hope the holidays find you happy and in good health. 2011 was a fun year for us. We welcomed two new leagues: Pierce Manufacturing on Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursdays on Thursdays and we are looking forward to yet another league addition on Mondays in 2012.
In June we hosted the Adult and Senior Badger State Games Golf Tournament for the third year. Midsummer gave us some great weather until we were hit with the big storm on September 2nd which had wind gusts of 80 mph. A few trees were lost, but after some lengthy cleanup the course came through quite well. In late fall new trees were planted to replace the lost ones including Elms, Cypress and a Kentucky Coffeetree.
The tees and greens were core aerified and top dressed right after Labor Day and healed quickly. We are looking at repeating this process in early spring to improve on the quality of our tees and putting surfaces. Verticutting was performed more often than in the past and we look to continue this for 2012. We will also be upgrading parts of our greens mowers in an effort to further increase putting speed.
One large project was that new sand was added to all 72 bunkers on the course this year. Many players had positive comments and felt it enhanced playability and consistency.
This offseason we are also upgrading some of our irrigation controllers to help with the watering of the fairways. Overall, outstanding playing conditions will be a top priority for us at Chaska.
We will be attending the Fox Cities Golf Expo Feb 17th, 18th & 19th at the Players Choice in Appleton. More information will be posted as this event approaches.
We are proud to be hosting the WSGA Sectional Qualifier for the 2012 State Match Play Championship sponsored by Taylormade. This will take place at Chaska on Thursday, May 24th. Registration and information will be available in early spring at wsga.org.
Enjoy the the next few months, stay warm, and hopefully spring will come early. We eagerly anticipate a great season of golf at Chaska in 2012.
